Centar za kulturu Trešnjevka jedan je od partnera na Erasmus+ projektu mobilnosti za mlade (KA105) CAPTAINS – Creativity against Passivity: Theatre Averts Imposing of Nationalism and Separatism kojeg koordinira Udruženje “BAZAART” iz Beograda, a namijenjen je mladim polaznicima dramskih grupa iz Hrvatske (CeKaTe i CK Čakovec – Dada) Bosne i Hercegovine (BNT Zenica i AkustikUm), Crne Gore (Korifej) i Srbije (Bazaart). U projektu, kao nastavak rada na Učiteljskom kazališnom laboratoriju u Centru za kulturu Trešnjevka skupina od pet mladih osoba zainteresiranih za bavljenje dramskom pedagogijom pod vodstvom dramske pedagoginje Mije Matasić sudjeluje u projektu Captains plus kojeg koordinira Bazaart iz Beograda. Projektni sastanak održao se od 17. do 20. srpnja u Beogradu (Srbija), a ljetni kamp od 17. do 27. kolovoza u Kruševcu (Srbija). Projekt traje do 1. travnja 2020. godine.

CAPTAINS is an initiative that brings together young people from countries in the Western Balkans where nationalistic pressure is being reinforced. The project supports the young to deconstruct nationalistic agendas, develop understanding with their peers, build up culture of citizenship and become ‘captains’ of regional cooperation and active citizenship in their communities and beyond.
REASONS: The project is motivated by two interconnected reasons. The 1st is noticeable absence of young people from many aspects of public life, namely those requiring democratic participation of citizens: dialogue on social and political issues, decision-making processes, and similar. Their passivity reflects underdeveloped civic competences, including sensitivity and skills for accepting and managing diversity. This makes the young generation susceptible to nationalistic rhetoric and prejudice against neighbouring nations, which is a part of government agendas in many Western Balkans countries, and the 2nd reason for our project.
OBJECTIVES: The CAPTAINS project aims to support young people to develop critical thinking, initiative, responsibility, culture of dialogue and other civic competence aspects, to build understanding and solidarity with their peers in the Western Balkans region and to become active citizens capable of making a democratic difference in the region.
STRATEGY FOR CHANGE: By creating a framework for joyful creativity, invention, free participation, sharing of ideas and learning exchange, we wish to foster a spirit of creativeness, excitement, pleasure in joint making, growth through acquiring new notions and experiences, pride in achievement… Through the sense of self-worth and respect for others, we’ll enhance capacities for action and cooperation and avert animosities, nationalism and separatism from young generation. We finally aim to empower young participants to become ‘captains’ of intercultural dialogue and active citizenship in their communities.
ISSUES addressed: Like elsewhere in Europe, in many WB countries the right-wing political parties are in power. Under those governments, new tensions are created in the region, while democracy is in decline.
Especially young people are pushed away from public life. In the offensive political climate, many young people have become passive; detached from their societies as they are at present, they don’t even vote. Many plan to leave the region and move to western states, because they don’t see future in their home countries and do not think that any change can be made.
Young people are also largely exposed to nationalistic influences. As a strategy to keep power, politicians artificially keep our countries in the state of conflict. At the same time, democratic values are being suppressed. Even the educational systems in regional states are subjected to political agendas, so whole generations of young people are brought up in the spirit of distrust towards their neighbours. Formal education region-wide is not democratic in itself and does not foster young people’s initiative, participation, sense of responsibility and other democratic qualities.
The project responds to the NEEDS of young people for strengthening civic and intercultural competences, and to the needs of societies for participation of the young in social and public affairs, strengthening thus democracy and regional cooperation.
